Who We Are
John 3:16 Mission endeavors to be the hands and feet of Christ to the homeless, hungry, and at-risk in Tulsa. This means helping to meet their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs. We do this by providing emergency overnight shelter, residential recovery programs, youth intervention, grocery support for families, free household items, and much more.
We are not affiliated with any specific church or denomination. As a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3), the Mission is funded solely by donations from supporters like you throughout the Tulsa community and beyond who desire to make relief and recovery programs available to our community.
We adhere to the highest standards of quality of care, treating each person or client, regardless of race, gender, creed, or faith background, with dignity and respect.
Our History
John 3:16 Mission was founded in 1952 in a converted fish market in downtown Tulsa. Our founder, the Rev. Bob Geisinger chose the famous John 3:16 scripture as the Mission’s name because this verse is, in his words, “the Gospel in a nutshell… the lighthouse of the scriptures. It knows no color, creed or class, and its promise is the true purpose of this Mission.”
John 3:16 Mission’s central focus has always been to introduce the hungry, homeless and at-risk of the Tulsa community to the life-transforming good news of Jesus Christ. At the same time, John 3:16 Mission endeavors to meet people’s immediate needs for food, shelter and compassionate care.
Through the decades and several location changes, John 3:16 has earned a reputation as one of Tulsa’s most trusted and effective ministries to Tulsans struggling with hunger, poverty, and homelessness. In the last 71 years, the Mission has provided millions of meals and millions of individual overnight stays. Along the way, countless lives have been redeemed and transformed.
