A week (11-14-16) before the Mission’s annual Turkey Basket Distribution Rev. Steve Whitaker got a report there were only 66 turkeys in the Mission’s freezer. More than 4,944 more were needed – and fast!
5,000 struggling families would need those turkeys and canned goods to have a Thanksgiving meal.
The Mission put out the call and the Tulsa community responded. Praise God.
By the time the food distribution began 11/21-23, the turkeys and canned goods were rolling in. In fact, 5,039 turkeys and over 120,000 pounds of canned goods were donated!
“It was an incredible response,” Rev. Whitaker said. “We prayed about it and put the message out there and the generous people of Tulsa responded. Not only did they respond, they responded with urgency. By the end of the food distribution, there was enough for everyone who came!”
The Mission did not have to turn anyone away who needed food for Thanksgiving.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who contributed,” Whitaker said. “I’ve been here a long time and seen a lot of amazing things that God has done. This is up there with the best of them. This is a miracle.”
